Analysis of a music video

The Fray- How to save a life

The music video for The Fray's Hows to save a life greatly helps to portray the image of what the song's lyrics are trying to represent. The Fray's music focus's on problems that everyone faces, they are everyday issues such as happiness, pain and relationships, and the video for How to Save a Life, represents this in a number of ways. The video depicts images of a number of 'ordinary' looking people portraying various emotions, which helps to re-enforce the lyrics of the song. One of the main focus's of the video are the super imposed text, which states words and phrases like 'scared' and 'death', which again brings focus to the songs image. the Mise en Scene in the video shows a white, clean, almost hospital like background, with very little else as in props, in the video, with heavy lighting, and editing techniques such as the use of focus, and lightening. The song is aimed at young people, and through the video it gives the impression the 'you are not alone'.
